The principals of Merganser have a record of working in schools and UK local authorities.
Having had significant experience of European work, they came together with a shared view that – in the early 2000s – many of the existing companies involved in project work in developing countries had limited experience of actually managing education, whether that be in administration or schools themselves. They believed that school principals and headteachers had a lot to learn from simply working together, and we sought out ways to make this happen.
Over the last twenty years there has been a radical shift in the way that education develops, and who generates the development. It is, in our view, good that reliance on external consultants has diminished in some situations, but – on the other hand – this seems to have led to a reduction in transnational exchange of ideas and experience.
Merganser has managed a wide range of projects, courses and other experiences in many countries, in Europe and more widely.
We continue to explore all possible ways to enable education professionals – and students and children – to meet and to have dynamic relationships which enable development of understanding.
The Merganser main team are all experienced education professionals and qualified teachers. They have many years experience of working in schools, colleges and higher education. They have worked to promote effective international contact between young people, teachers and education administrators and have managed a wide range of projects and programmes, for government and other agencies, and in support of individual schools.
For specific projects and assignments we draw in a small number of additional consultants, who are well known to us. It is important that all of us offering educational advice and support have a similar approach and understanding, so we keep closely in touch using a variety of communications strategy and media.
And, of course, these reflect the ways in which schools and teachers can keep in touch on an international basis.
